Visible Mending

Learn basic sewing skills to creatively repair your clothing and make it more your own. Join Ann Marie for a relaxing evening of caring for yourself and the earth through the simple act of hand stitching. This is an invitation to slow down and explore how small, deliberate actions can make a difference over time.
Each session introduces one of three visible mending approaches:

1. Sashiko: Explore a Japanese stitching tradition using of simple running stitches to mend
   in a way that is both functionally strong and decoratively expressive
2. Scotch Darning: Learn how to blanket-stitch to embellish and strengthen worn areas or
   create a decorative hem.
3. Speedweve: A weaving approach using a small loom to patch and repair (individual
   looms provided for learning in class; similar looms are readily available online). This
   method is great for darning socks and other knits, as well as woven materials.

This week: INTRO TO SASHIKO – Explore an introduction to sashiko, a Japanese stitching tradition, using simple running stitches to mend and embellish fabric. Ann Marie will provide guidance and all materials for experimenting on a practice patch. Slow down with deliberate handwork and reflect on repair as an act of care for ourselves and the earth. Leave with practical skills and ideas for continued stitching.

No sewing experience needed. All materials are provided so you can experiment freely and develop practical skills and ideas for continued practice. Come to one class or try all three—check the calendar for each technique.
