CERAMIC SATURDAYS – 2 CLASS SESSION SCHEDULE & OBJECTIVES
Please note that once you sign up for a Ceramic Saturday, you are guaranteeing your availability to appear the following Saturday, at the same time, for a Glazing Saturday session. On Ceramic Saturdays, we will create pottery by hand (not using a wheel). Depending on the directive, we will show you how to see a variety hand-building techniques such as pinching pots, rolling out slabs, and coiling. On the following Glaze Saturday, we will discuss the final steps of the pottery-making process. We will explain how the firing process works and will show you how to use different methods and glazes to finish your creations.
Basic community tools are provided during class. Clay is also provided in amounts required to build the class directives.
CLASS STRUCTURE
Each 2-hour session is broken up into a 30 min demonstration and 75 mins of assisted work time, along with 15 mins of cleanup time. Clean-up includes cleaning and putting away all tools and wiping down any areas used for hand building. We will focus on a different project each cycle (2 weeks) with opportunities for individuality and creativity. We hope to maintain a communal and safe space where art-making experiences and processes may be shared. No previous ceramic skills are required to attend Ceramic Saturdays. We will work with your skill level as you explore the clay medium along with the bi-weekly directive.
NEED MORE TIME? – CERAMIC OPEN STUDIO – CLASS EXTENSION
Ceramic Saturday classes are designed for you to complete your work during the scheduled session. However, your desired detailed work may take more time to finish. Open Studio sessions are 2-hour blocks of time to work independently. One of our ceramic teachers will be onsite to help you setup and give supportive direction. These session are meant to give you extra time to practice the skills you have learned in class and to complete building or glazing of your work. Open Studio sessions are scheduled and available for an additional fee. See our Calendar for session availability.
(*) Clean-up and respect for tools and equipment are strictly enforced. Failure to properly clean your workspace, clean public areas you use, and proper use of equipment & supplies are reasons to ask you not to return.

WEAR APPROPRIATRE CLOTHING
It’s recommended to come with clothes able to get dirty with clay or even an apron. Please trim your nails if possible as it could be frustrating to unintentionally indent your clay creations and clean up any mishaps. For safety reasons, please make sure long hair is tied back and jewelry removed. We encourage you to leave all jewelry and valuables at home as we are not responsible for any personal items lost or left behind. TIP: bringing lotion to apply after the session. Playing with clay can leave your hands feeling dry.

See our Calendar for Open Stuido schedule. Please do not attempt to pick up your piece at any other time, even if you see the CAC doors open as we would like to ensure the correct artwork is going home with the correct person
